Louise Fitzgerald is an artist whose work centers around video, text and performances. She is a former student of the University of Reading in which she studied a BA in Fine Art.
For her work she explores students thoughts and feeling when thinking about their degree and their future. She use her own experiences and the people around her as the main starting point of her work. For her degree show she kept a notebook to record all the pieces of advice she was given, and what her peers thought about their own work. She found this very helpful when making her work more effective.
For her performance work she relies heavily on her voice, practicing the speed and pronunciation. Due to this experimentation of the use of her voice, her work often sounds broken. When performing her work, she often changes her personality, therefore making it a much more effective by distancing herself.
I don’t feel influenced by her work, but I do feel less alone in how I’m coping with University life and studies. She made me realise that I’m not the only one struggling.
